Game Night is Back! (Plus, Big Announcement)

Written by Stephen Mingo

As we emerge, blinking, from our homes into the crisp and cool morning light of summer we ask ourselves… Is it safe? Is it over? The inevitable confusion of do I or don’t I wear a face mask, have I had both vaccines and what on Earth is a “pingdemic”!? The front door swung wildly open, behind us lies a stack of board games coated in a thin layer of dust. Ticket to Ride’s tRage screaming from inside the cardboard, the beautiful stones of Mandala demanding peace and attention and the colourful tiles of Kingdomino begging to be played once more.

It is my pleasure, as EDTGG Chairman, to officially announce that Game Night is Back! I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU. Thank you to all of our members first and foremost, who have stuck with us patiently during a once in a lifetime pandemic event and have safely adhered to the rules allowing us to phase in a return to normality. Thank you to the game designers, publishers and writers whose works of art sit waiting to be playtested and reviewed in the cupboard of wonders and whose work we can now acknowledge and enjoy together. Thank you to the newcomers, who emerge from isolation looking for a new hobby and have taken the plunge in giving us a try. There are already a few exciting new game reviews in the works, but we invite any established club members to join in if they so wish. To the board game companies, I thank you all for your patience and we will endeavour to work through our backlog as smoothly as possible.

Our game night community can come together once again

Suffice to say, this is indeed an exciting time to be a tabletop gamer in the South West. If you’re new, you’re more than welcome to join us. As a reminder, we meet every Tuesday night from 6pm in the function room of The Three Tuns, High Street, Honiton. Club membership is free and we always have a variety of RPG, wargaming and board game tables to join in. You can find out more right here on this website or by…

We are so excited that we can’t keep this to ourselves any longer. Big news!

This year, our club turns 6 years old. We’ve survived the pandemic, we’ve found our permanent home at The Three Tuns and we’ve only gone from strength to strength. Whilst it has been accepted that we cannot host our usual 24 hour charity gaming day, this year plans are underway to host a slightly stripped down 12 hour version.

Saturday, 20th November 2021

Put this date in your diary and join us at The Three Tuns 10am – 10pm, this will be the day! Celebrations are in the works to acknowledge 6 years as a club, as well as fundraising for a charity very close to our hearts. Early plans suggest there may be a bring and buy table, a prize draw raffle, giant board games, all day gaming and prizes to be won. We will release more information as soon as it’s confirmed, but we’re all looking forward to getting our game on once again.

In the meantime, stay safe, look after each other and let’s get gaming!
